The Challenge:
In a challenging geographical environment that involved working on an active volcano with mixed geology and highly variable weather conditions within a UNESCO dual World Heritage Area, a gondola was required to further expand the numerous recreational opportunities enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year on Mt Ruapehu.
The Outcome:
At a cost of $25m, a 1.8km gondola at the Whakapapa ski area was successfully constructed and was opened to the public for the 2019 ski season. Work included using a temporary ropeway and helicopters to transport material to remote tower locations.
Our Involvement:
Resolve Group supported Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) with the procurement and delivery of the new gondola. Work was undertaken within the extremely tight timeframes required by the Provincial Growth Fund and utilising a novated design consultant. We also acted as Engineer to the Contract and Client Project Manager.
