The Challenge:

Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) needed help delivering their 30-year vision to upgrade infrastructure and provide improved services to passengers and airline companies in order to support the continued growth of New Zealand travel and tourism.


The Outcome:

AIAL announced an ambitious capital and renewal programme worth $1.8 billion in infrastructure investment to expand and upgrade their domestic and international terminals, plus several transport projects that will improve the travel time and traffic flows around the airport.


Our Involvement:

From early 2020, Resolve Group has been providing Engineer to Contract (EtC) and Engineer Representative (ER) services, along with independent advice, including:

  • International Terminal Baggage Handling System  replace, refurbish, and upgrade the existing system and install new infrastructure to enable future expansion and provide additional resiliency,
  • Domestic Terminal Building HVAC Replacement and Roof Repair – two projects delivered under a single contract: 1) replace existing HVAC condensers to improve efficiency, 2) repair and reseal areas of the roof as part of the maintenance programme,
  • Domestic Terminal Building Fire Sprinkler Replacement – Replace the existing fire sprinkler system as part of the ongoing maintenance programme,
  • Terminal Development Plan for diverting the Fuel Line – replacement of existing sections of Jet A1 fuel pipeline to divert it away from a proposed new Domestic Jet Facility building, plus
  • refurbishing existing valves and hydrants to ensure compliance with Lloyds Register,
  • Taxiway Mike – construct a new taxiway and remote stands for future aircraft growth,
  • Taxiway Bravo Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) – replace existing AGL system,
  • Passenger Air Bridges 1, 7, 8, and 9 Replacement – replace existing air bridges, including new foundations,
  • Runaway 23L and 05L Slab Replacement – replace sections of the runway,
  • Stage 1 and 2 Airside Fence Renewal,
  • FY 21, 22, 23, 24 Airside Asphalt Renewal,
  • KA Pond Spillway Remediation,
  • Eastern Airfield Building Relocation,
  • Airside Drainage Improvements – address the ongoing flooding and ponding near the runway and service roads.
