This year’s annual NZTA/NZIHT conference was held from 4-6 November in Nelson, with the overarching theme of ‘Can we change our current thinking to meet the challenge?’

Among the many stimulating presentations prompted by that question was one made by Auckland Transport, in partnership with Resolve Group’s Darren Cash, called ‘Auckland’s Road Corridor Maintenance – A Shared Vision and Innovative Way Forward towards Transformational Change’.

As its title suggests, the presentation mapped out the way in which, in response to a combination of rising roading costs and shrinking budgets, the Auckland Transport Road Corridor Maintenance team has managed to develop a new collaborative framework that provides a unique opportunity to rationalise and advance road maintenance activities and has the potential to revolutionise the way maintenance contracts are procured and delivered throughout New Zealand.
