“Karanga Plaza Harbour Pool Recognised for Design and Operations”
At the World Landscape Architecture Awards, the Karanga Plaza Jump Platform took out the Small Urban Projects category.
The concept for the project emerged from a series of Risk Workshops facilitated by Resolve Group for Eke Panuku, which identified the absence of a safe location for people to jump into the water along Auckland’s CBD waterfront. To address this, Safety by Design Workshops, also led by Resolve Group’s Tim Crow, developed a solution to mitigate the risk of swimmers straying into the Viaduct Harbour’s navigational channel. The design involved enclosing the swimming area with floating pontoons, enabling the project to progress through to construction.
This innovative jumping platform has now achieved international recognition, contributing to Wynyard Quarter’s ongoing waterfront enhancements for Auckland Council.
Highlighting its operational excellence as well, the Karanga Plaza Harbour Pool also earned a Merit Award for Aquatic Innovation (Operations) at the Recreation Aotearoa National Pool Lifeguard Awards. Resolve Group contributed in this space by ensuring a comprehensive Risk Management Strategy was developed to ensure maintenance and operations risks were addressed and then developed the Operating Plan to ensure the right people were managing the facility.
Resolve Group were there working with the client resolving issues and challenges to ensure that the facility was not only award winning, but opened in time for the peak summer season and was as safe as reasonably practical for all to enjoy.
